The Ultimate Bridal Shower Planning Checklist

Weddings are full of cherished traditions—and one of the most anticipated events leading up to the big day is the bridal shower. Typically, the maid of honor takes the lead in planning this celebration, but even if someone else is hosting, it’s usually her role to bring the vision to life. To help make things easier, here’s a step-by-step checklist to guide your bridal shower planning from start to finish.

3+ Months Before the Shower

Start by having a conversation with the bride to get a feel for what kind of celebration she has in mind. Is she envisioning a classic, girls-only gathering or a co-ed party? Would she prefer a laid-back afternoon brunch or a weekend getaway in Vegas? Use her preferences as the foundation for planning.

Pick a date that falls about 4–8 weeks before the wedding. If you’re planning to host it at a venue or restaurant, be sure to book it early. You’ll also want to sit down with the bride to create the guest list, so you know how many people to plan for.

Two Months Before

Send out a save-the-date email or message so guests can mark their calendars. Go over the budget with the bride and start shopping for invitations—or gather supplies if you’re making them yourself.

Finalize the main details: theme, food and drink menu, activities, decorations, and party favors. If you're ordering anything from a bakery or caterer, place those orders now. Also, collect mailing addresses for the guest list and outline a checklist of tasks leading up to the big day.

One Month Out

Start prepping the invitations. Make sure to include registry info and any special instructions—like the party theme or dress code. Mail them out with enough time for guests to RSVP.

Begin purchasing décor, serving supplies, and any games or props you’ll need. Order or make the party favors, and if others have volunteered to bring food or desserts, check in to confirm their plans.

One Week Before

Confirm all reservations and follow up on food deliveries. Check your RSVP list so you know

your final headcount. Wrap up the favors and gifts and sketch out a simple layout for how you’ll arrange seating, tables, and decorations.

The Day Before

Get a head start by prepping any food or drinks that can be made ahead. Set up any rented equipment, finish decorating, and organize the favor display. Touch base with the bridesmaids to confirm who’s bringing what and ask them to come early on shower day to help set up.

Planning a bridal shower can be a big undertaking, but with a bit of organization and teamwork, it can come together beautifully. Stick to this timeline, lean on the bridal party for support, and most importantly—make it a day the bride will always remember.
